The Road Fund receives funding from the following sources:
  • fuel levies on diesel and petrol;
  • transit fees;
  • vehicle overloading fees; and
  • monies from any other source at the rate to be determined by Parliament from time to time.

Revenue from the fuel levies accounts to more than 90% of total revenue.

In FY 2007/08 it is projected that Tshs. 218,474 Billion will be collected, following increase of fuel levy from Tshs. 100 per litre of Petrol and Diesel to Tshs. 200 per from July 2007.
